Add, edit or delete a meter

For properties synced from ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager® (ESPM), meters must be created, edited or deleted directly in ESPM. Updates will automatically sync every night in Abisko.
Navigate to Property → Meters → Energy / Water / Waste
  • To add a meter
    1. Click on Add Meter button.
    2. Set meter attributes and click save
  • To edit a meter
    1. Hover the mouse over the row in the table for the meter you would like to edit
    2. Click the edit icon that shows itself on the right side to open the sidebar
    3. Edit meter attributes (see below section) and save
  • To delete a meter
    1. Hover the mouse over the row in the table for the meter you would like to edit
    2. Click the trash icon that shows itself on the right side to delete

Meter Attributes

Required and optional fields when creating new meters.
  • Meter Type (required): The type of energy or water meter (e.g. electricity, gas, propane).
  • Meter Name (required): Custom name for the meter.
  • Units (required): The units in which the meter entries are input (kWh, therms, liters).
  • Included in Metrics (required): If the meter is included in Whole Building performance calculations (learn more).
  • Activation Date (required): The date the meter came online and performance metrics begin. Only data after the activation date will be included in performance metrics.
  • Deactivation Date (optional): The date the meter went offline and performance metrics end. Only data before the deactivation date will be included in performance metrics.
  • Notes (optional): Any additional notes associated with the meter.

Additional attributes for waste meters

  • Waste Material (required): The material property of the waste (e.g. beverage containers, batteries, building materials, electronics, plastics).
  • Date Entry Method (required): How the waste data is tracked and entered in Abisko.
    • Regular: Similar to energy/water meters with regular entries
    • Intermittent: Meters for infrequent or 1-time events (e.g. annual donation of electronics)
    • Container: Based on the size of a container, # of times it is emptied and fill percentage
      • Example entry: [Container Volume: 3m2; Times Emptied: 5; Average Fill Rate: 75%)
Abisko enables volume to mass waste conversions by using factors published by the EPA (see here). Waste is also disaggregated by disposal type and hazardous/non-hazardous categories.

Utility Credentials and Account Details

Users can save utility online portal credentials and account details associated with each meter to make the meter discoverable when processing multiple utility bills at the portfolio-level. Navigate to Property → Meters → Energy / Water / Waste Hover the mouse over the row in the table with the meter and click the edit icon to open the panel. Scroll down and expand the Utility Credentials section and enter the following details:
  • Provider name (optional): The name of the utility.
  • Account number (optional): The account number as listed in utility invoices.
    This must be input exactly in the form as it appears on invoices (e.g. with hyphens and different letter cases) so that it can be properly matched.
  • URL (optional): The utility portal URL where bills can be retrieved.
  • Username (optional): The username to login to the utility portal.
  • Password (optional): The password to login to the utility portal.
  • Security question answer (optional): If the utility portal has a security question to verify user identity, enter the answer here for reference.

Add, edit or delete meter entries

Navigate to Property → Meters → Energy / Water / Waste
  • Click on the name of the meter for which you would like to edit entries
  • Scroll to below the meter information and meter data plot
    • To add a new meter entry
      1. Click on ‘Add Entry’ button.
      2. Fill out all the entry information in the sidebar and save
        Attachments (e.g. utility bill PDF) can be uploaded to each meter entry by clicking on the paper clip icon in the row of the meter entry table
    • To edit a meter entry
      1. Hover the mouse over the row in the table for the meter entry you would like to edit
      2. Click the edit icon that shows itself on the right side to open the sidebar
      3. Edit the meter entry and save
    • To delete a meter
      1. Hover the mouse over a row in the table for the meter you would like to edit
        • Click the edit icon that shows itself on the right side to delete
